HOW POSTDATE WORKS

Send a message that opens at the time you choose.

Postdate lets you share text and files through one link. You choose when the message opens. Anyone with the link sees a countdown first, then your Postdate.

Create and share your Postdate

See the full flow in one minute. Follow the step-by-step file-sharing guide.
  1. 01 You write

Write your Postdate and add files on your device.

  2. 02 Your browser encrypts it

Your browser encrypts your text and files before upload. A teaser you choose to write is public.

  3. 03 Your readers wait

Your Postdate opens at your chosen time. Until then, anyone with the link sees a countdown.

  4. 04 Your Postdate opens

At your chosen time, the reader's browser decrypts the message so they can read it.

Two locks

Standard

We hold the key and release it at the time you choose. We promise not to read your Postdate before it opens. Our privacy policy explains this promise.

Standard includes a private delete link. It works before or after opening, until your Postdate expires. It deletes the message and its key. We cannot recover them. Copies people already opened or saved remain.

Timelock

Timelock uses drand, a public network that releases random numbers at set times. It encrypts the key for a future drand release, so the link cannot reveal your Postdate before that release, assuming drand and the encryption remain secure. The sender can still keep the original text, files, or key.

You cannot delete a Timelock message yourself or make it open early. Postdate can still delete the encrypted content for abuse. Opening also depends on that public network staying available.

Read about Timelock and our privacy policy.

Your privacy

Your text and files are encrypted on your device before upload. We store only the encrypted version. A teaser you write is public before the message opens. Prediction and reveal templates add a one-word public label. You can remove that label during review. We do not store filenames separately or inspect them. Our application stores hashed IP addresses for rate limits and abuse handling. We use no third-party tracking analytics or tracking cookies. Your browser saves draft text locally without encryption so you can return to it. "We will not read your content early" is our promise for Standard. Timelock uses encryption to prevent early access.

What it's for

  • Launch embargo Press gets the link today. The same opening time applies to everyone.
  • Exam answers The class gets the link with the exam. The answers appear when time is up.
  • Security advisory Vendors get the link now. With Timelock, the link needs the scheduled drand release to open.
  • Time capsule Write a message now. Read it later.

Send board packets, homework, contest results, sealed bids, job offers, or birthday letters. See more uses and the lock options for each.

Pricing

Standard is free for messages of 1 MB or less that open within 7 days. Every Timelock Postdate costs $3 USD. Standard also costs $3 USD if it opens after 7 days or exceeds 1 MB.

This covers opening dates up to one year and 100 MB total. These features share one $3 fee; they do not add separate charges. Size limits include encryption and file packaging.

The editor accepts 10–100,000 characters, or files without text, and up to 10 files. Opening dates must be at least 5 minutes away.

Availability after opening is separate: choose 1 hour to 30 days, with 7 days as the default. You see the price before you post.
